The University of the South Pacific (USP) Council is set to convene later this month in the Cook Islands to address ongoing allegations against Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pal Ahluwalia. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro confirmed this meeting and indicated that council members would establish the ‘Terms of Reference’ for the investigation.

Additionally, the meeting will serve to clarify the status of the Pro-Chancellor position, which is currently filled on an acting basis by Dr. Heila Heine. Minister Radrodro noted that the initial round of voting for the Pro-Chancellor position has already been completed, with a second round anticipated soon.

“This is something that all council members are eagerly awaiting, alongside the Acting Pro-Chancellor, the Secretariat, and legal advisors, to better understand the situation regarding the Pro-Chancellor appointment,” Radrodro stated.

This meeting presents an opportunity for USP to reinforce its governance structure and address the current challenges, potentially leading to a more unified and transparent administration in the future. The resolution of these matters could bolster confidence in the university’s leadership and enhance its academic integrity.
