The University of the South Pacific (USP) is set to hold a council meeting in the Cook Islands from November 23rd to 25th. Mr. Radrodro has confirmed that a significant portion of the agenda will focus on addressing staff concerns, particularly in light of recent protests.
Key issues to be discussed during the meeting will include the appointment processes for both the visitor and the Pro-Chancellor, aimed at resolving the staff’s grievances. Last month, the USP Staff Union and the Association of the University of the South Pacific Staff staged a strike, citing a lack of effective leadership from Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pal Ahluwalia.
These discussions are crucial as they represent an opportunity for the university to address the ongoing issues and work towards a more harmonious working environment. By actively engaging with the staff’s concerns, USP aims to foster a sense of collaboration and strengthen the institution’s leadership moving forward.
The university community remains hopeful that these discussions will lead to positive changes and an improved atmosphere conducive to both learning and teaching.
