The University of the South Pacific (USP) is set to hold its council meeting in the Cook Islands from November 23rd to 25th. The meeting comes at a crucial time following recent staff protests, which highlighted concerns over leadership within the university.
Mr. Radrodro has confirmed that a key focus of the agenda will be to address staff issues, particularly those raised during the recent strike led by the USP Staff Union and the Association of the University of the South Pacific Staff. The union voiced their dissatisfaction with the leadership style of Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Pal Ahluwalia.
“There are important matters that must be discussed,” Mr. Radrodro stated, indicating that the meeting will include deliberations on the appointment of the visitor and other pressing concerns.
This council meeting represents an opportunity for university leadership to engage with staff and work towards resolution of the ongoing issues. It is hoped that constructive dialogue will emerge from these discussions, paving the way for a more cohesive and supportive environment at the university.
In a broader context, addressing these concerns openly may lead to more effective governance and improve the overall atmosphere within the institution, ultimately benefiting both staff and students.
