Use Government Aid Wisely: Key Advice for Parents

Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has once again emphasized to parents and guardians the importance of using the $200 government assistance specifically for their children’s back-to-school preparations. During the launch of the new Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) online application system in Suva, Radrodro highlighted that this support aims to help families gear up for the 2025 academic year.

“The $200 is to provide assistance for parents and guardians in terms of preparing their children to start with their 2025 academic journey,” Radrodro stated, urging families to allocate these funds solely for educational expenses such as uniforms, books, and stationery.

Finance Minister Biman Prasad echoed these sentiments, stressing the necessity for responsible spending. He pointed out that this assistance is part of the government’s efforts to tackle rising living costs and the financial challenges many families have faced due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This initiative primarily targets households with an annual income below $50,000, and has historically supported around 200,000 students each year, costing the government approximately $130 million.

As families prepare after the holiday season, this timely support is meant not only to ease immediate financial pressures but also to foster educational readiness among students. The government’s commitment to education is evident as these initiatives facilitate a conducive environment for students to return to school prepared and eager to learn.

In summary, this financial assistance signifies a positive move towards supporting families during a crucial time, reinforcing the government’s dedication to enhancing educational opportunities. Such proactive measures are paving the way for a brighter future for students across Fiji, ensuring they are ready to embark on their academic journeys with confidence and the necessary tools for success.
