The USA Island Boys are set to make their debut at the 10th Sanatan World Cup, organized by the Rams Group of Companies, which kicks off tomorrow in Sydney. Coached by the renowned Gurjit Singh, the team will compete in the Over 40s category.
Managed by Ashnil and Rajneel Prasad, the Island Boys, formed just last year, have already achieved success in various soccer tournaments in the Bay Area, California. Notably, they excelled this year by winning all major tournaments, including the NAFSA tournament, where they faced top clubs from the United States and Canada.
In an interview with FijiLive, Coach Singh expressed the team’s enthusiasm and commitment to performing at their best in the World Cup. “We are going to give our best at this tournament and show our good sportsmanship as we are representing USA,” he stated.
Key players for the team include former Nasinu representatives Rup Edward and Virend Singh, as well as former USA All Stars goalkeeper Kevin Dip and Lawrence Dutt. Additionally, guest players Sudeshwar Ram, Nitan Kumar, and Shiva Goundar, who are former Tailevu Naitasiri players, have been brought in to enhance the team’s experience. The Island Boys will begin their tournament campaign tomorrow at 7 PM, facing Lautoka Sanatan.
