The USA All Stars arrived in Fiji today, gearing up for the highly anticipated 2024 Flick Hygiene Pacific Community Cup in Lautoka. Former national coach Gurjit Singh, who is now serving as the team’s technical advisor, shared that the squad has not trained together recently due to players being spread out. They will utilize the next few days to build their team structure, game strategy, and player combinations.
Singh expressed confidence in his collaboration with Coach Imone Mohanta, who has been diligent in selecting the best players for the tournament this year. He reflected on last year’s experience in New Zealand, where the team excelled in the pool stage but fell short in the finals. Singh conveyed hopes of turning that performance around this time, aiming for their first Pacific Cup title in Lautoka.
Drawing from his extensive experience in various Pacific Cup tournaments, Singh noted the increasing strength and competence of participating teams, partly due to the inclusion of professional and semi-professional players. He urged Fijian fans to expect an exciting and high-quality display from all teams involved.
The USA All Stars boast a strong roster that includes Dubai-based former Fiji U20 defender Peter Ravai and other notable players such as Oliver McFadyen and Manav Permal. They will also feature guest players like Javi Mariona and Donovan Lescott, adding depth to their squad.
The USA All Stars will kick off the tournament against Labasa at 4:30 PM on Thursday, followed by matches against the NZFFI Auckland All Stars and Rewa on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
This tournament presents an exciting opportunity for the USA All Stars not only to showcase their talents but also to strengthen international connections and promote cultural exchange through sports. It also highlights the growing popularity and competitiveness of the Pacific Community Cup, promising thrilling encounters for fans and players alike.
