The USA All Stars have arrived in Fiji for the 2024 Flick Hygiene Pacific Community Cup, where they will use the next few days to prepare for the tournament taking place in Lautoka. Gurjit Singh, the team’s technical advisor and former national coach, stated that the team has not had the chance to train together prior to their arrival, given that many players have been scattered across different locations. The focus in the coming days will be on refining their team structure, game plan, and combinations ahead of the competition.
Singh will once again assist Coach Imone Mohanta, who has been diligently selecting the best players for the tournament. Referring to last year’s performance in New Zealand, where the team topped their pool but fell short in the finals, Singh expressed hope to improve their fate this year and earn their first Pacific Cup title. He emphasized that, based on his extensive experience in past editions of the Pacific Cup, the overall strength and quality of the teams have visibly increased, particularly with the inclusion of professional and semi-professional players, which enhances the viewing experience for Fijian fans.
Notable players joining the USA All Stars include Dubai-based former Fiji U20 defender Peter Ravai, former U20 trialist Oliver McFadyen, and ex-Navua midfielder Manav Permal. They will also feature guest players such as Javi Mariona, Alex Vedamanikam, Christopher Grey, Donovan Lescott, Jeremy Zielinsky, and Anthony White.
The USA All Stars are scheduled to kick off their campaign against Labasa in the opening match of the Cup, which is set for Thursday at 4:30 PM. Following this, they will compete against the NZFFI Auckland All Stars on Friday and Rewa on Saturday.
This event promises to bring exciting football to Fiji and showcases the growing talent and competitive spirit among the teams. Fans can look forward to thrilling matches, as players aim to step up their game in this prestigious tournament.
