The USA All Stars arrived in Fiji today, gearing up for the 2024 Flick Hygiene Pacific Community Cup set to take place in Lautoka. The team, which has not trained together due to players being spread across various locations, will spend the next few days focusing on developing their team strategy, gameplay, and player combinations.
Gurjit Singh, the team’s technical advisor and former national coach, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament. He remarked on the hard work Coach Imone Mohanta has put in throughout the year to assemble a strong squad. Singh reflected on the team’s performance in the previous year’s tournament in New Zealand, where they performed well but unfortunately fell short in the finals, and he is determined to change that outcome this year in Lautoka.
Drawing from his extensive experience in previous Pacific Cups, Singh noted the continuous improvement and strengthening of teams in each edition, crediting the participation of professional and semi-professional players for enhancing the competitive nature of the tournament. He encouraged fans to expect a high level of skill and entertainment in the matches.
Among the notable players in the USA All Stars roster are former Fiji U20 defender Peter Ravai and former Navua midfielder Manav Permal. The team will also feature guest players like Javi Mariona, Alex Vedamanikam, and others.
The USA All Stars are set to kick off their campaign with a match against Labasa at 4:30 PM on Thursday, followed by games against the NZFFI Auckland All Stars on Friday and Rewa on Saturday.
This tournament offers a hopeful opportunity for the USA All Stars not only to showcase their skills but also to potentially capture their first Pacific Cup title. As they prepare, local fans can look forward to an exciting display of football talent and competition.
In summary, the USA All Stars are working hard to unify their team ahead of a promising tournament, making for an eventful kickoff to the Pacific Community Cup.
