The USA All Stars have arrived in Fiji, gearing up for the 2024 Flick Hygiene Pacific Community Cup in Lautoka. The team, which has not trained together due to the geographical spread of its players, will utilize the next few days to establish their team structure, develop their game plan, and strengthen player combinations, according to Gurjit Singh, the team’s technical advisor and former national coach.
Singh expressed his excitement about collaborating with head coach Imone Mohanta, who has diligently selected a strong squad for the tournament. Reflecting on the previous year’s performance in New Zealand, where the team topped their pool but fell short in the finals, Singh is hopeful about reclaiming their first Pacific Cup title this year in Lautoka.
He noted the growing competitiveness of the tournament, drawing on his experience from past Pacific Cups. With a notable influx of professional and semi-professional players, Singh believes that spectators can anticipate an impressive showcase of skill and high-level play from all participating teams.
Some standout names in the USA All Stars lineup include Peter Ravai, a former defender for Fiji U20, and Oliver McFadyen, a former trialist, alongside guest players like Javi Mariona and Donovan Lescott. The team’s opening match will be against Labasa at 4:30 PM on Thursday, with subsequent matches against the NZFFI Auckland All Stars and Rewa.
As the tournament approaches, the anticipation builds, and there is a hopeful outlook for the USA All Stars to enhance their performance and potentially secure the much-coveted Pacific Cup title. The event promises to deliver thrilling matches as the teams strive for victory, providing fans with an exciting experience.
