The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has acknowledged that the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) report for Nabua Primary School has not yet been completed. A team visited the school on November 4, but the report, originally due the next day, has not been delivered despite ongoing follow-ups with the Ministry.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has also spoken about the worsening conditions at the school, where students are currently facing hazardous circumstances because of incomplete and poorly maintained facilities. He noted that the buildings, constructed under previous management, were left unfinished. The Minister emphasized that they are working closely with the new management to identify effective strategies to complete the construction.
Additionally, he encouraged the school to officially request assistance from the Government through the Ministry of Education if necessary. Concerns are growing regarding the significant structural damage that affects most classrooms, including issues like rusted roofs and large gaps in windows where panes are missing. These unsafe conditions not only jeopardize the safety of the students but may also create risky escape routes for them.
This situation directly impacts over 900 students at Nabua Primary School and sheds light on a larger issue regarding the deterioration of public education infrastructure in urban areas.
As this situation unfolds, it opens the door for potential changes and improvements in both the school and the broader education system, which could ultimately benefit countless students and enhance their learning environment. The calls for government assistance could lead to crucial repairs and revitalization of the school’s facilities, ensuring a safer and more conducive educational space for the children.
