Opposition Member of Parliament Ketan Lal has emphasized that the recent series of fires in schools constitutes a national crisis that requires immediate and effective action. He articulated that the safety of students and their right to a continuous education must be prioritized above all else.

Lal criticized the government for focusing more on making excuses rather than presenting real solutions, urging the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Infrastructure to promptly send expert teams to evaluate every school across the nation. He proposed a sweeping safety audit in partnership with fire authorities to identify at-risk schools and classrooms that need urgent intervention.

He asserted the necessity for a comprehensive plan to tackle fire hazards and ensure that schools adhere to fundamental safety standards, stating, “Enough is enough.” Lal condemned the tendency of the Coalition Government to shift blame rather than take responsibility and demanded tangible actions that produce meaningful results.

The MP expressed concern over the considerable damage caused by fires in educational institutions, which have disrupted student learning and posed significant risks to lives. He questioned how much longer this negligence could be tolerated, underscoring that this issue should not be politicized but treated with utmost seriousness as it directly impacts the wellbeing of children and educators.

Lal alerted that every day of government inaction raises the potential for further tragedies, urging the Coalition Government to recognize the critical nature of the situation. He reassured the citizens of Fiji that the safety of their children is a priority for the opposition, stating that the time for excuses is over and it is now crucial for leaders to take affirmative steps forward.

This call for immediate action underscores a growing acknowledgment within opposition circles of the importance of maintaining safe environments for students, which is a vital step towards fostering a secure learning atmosphere for future generations.

In light of these developments, it’s hopeful to see political figures rallying around the safety of schools, as it indicates a willingness to work collectively towards solutions that protect the well-being of students. If government agencies heed this call, it could lead to improved safety measures and a happier, healthier educational experience for all children.
