Urgent Repairs: Water Supply Disruption Looms in Fiji

The Water Authority of Fiji is set to isolate its raw water pipeline to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant in Savura for urgent repairs on a damaged washout valve. The damage occurred due to flash flooding this morning when a tree trunk, carried by the floodwaters, struck the washout valve of the main raw water pipeline.

WAF Manager of Regional Operations, Samuela Rokovaleusa, emphasized that repairing the damaged valve is crucial for maintaining water production and ensuring operational integrity. He noted that a significant amount of water is currently being lost from the pipeline and not reaching the treatment plant.

The isolation of the pipeline will begin today and is expected to last overnight. During this time, residents in nearby areas may face disruptions in their water supply. Rokovaleusa assured the public that the operations team will work swiftly to minimize inconvenience and provide water carting assistance as needed.

Residents are advised to prepare for this temporary water disruption.
