Food rations provided by the government are set to begin distribution as soon as tomorrow in the Western Division, targeting individuals residing in evacuation centres. Currently, there are four active Evacuation Centres that are providing shelter for 61 households, totaling 234 individuals.
The designated centres include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office. These facilities have been receiving generous contributions of cooked meals and hygiene kits from various faith-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the Ministry of Health. Moreover, the Fiji Red Cross has provided dignity kits specifically to the Saioni and Korovuto Secondary Evacuation Centres.
In light of the ongoing situation, public advisories have been issued to encourage preparedness and to minimize risks. Both the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) and the Western Divisional Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) are actively monitoring the conditions. Other Divisional EOCs are also keeping a close watch on weather developments in their areas.
Currently, there is a Flood Warning in effect for regions vulnerable to flooding near and downstream of the Ba, Nasivi (Tavua), Nakauvadra (Rakiraki), and Nadi Rivers. A Flood Alert has been declared for all major rivers across Fiji.
To ensure community safety, police are on standby to facilitate the evacuation of residents in flood-prone areas if necessary. Authorities strongly advise individuals to evacuate if instructed, preferably during daylight hours for optimal safety.
