Apolosi Lewaqai, the Divisional Commissioner for the Western region, announced that the priority today is to distribute food rations to 61 families currently sheltered in evacuation centres.
This morning, relief teams are actively working to ensure that these families receive crucial food supplies. The primary focus areas for distribution include Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office in Nadi.
Commissioner Lewaqai explained that food rations are typically provided to evacuees 48 hours following their evacuation. Preparations are underway for the food packages intended for these families, with an objective to complete the distribution by the end of the day.
He also noted that emergency operation centres will remain operational, as meteorological reports suggest continued rainfall over the weekend.
This initiative highlights the community’s resilience and support during challenging times, with local authorities stepping up quickly to assist families in need. The ongoing commitment to deliver aid underscores the dedication to ensuring that those affected by this situation receive necessary support and resources.
