During a parliamentary session, Opposition Member of Parliament Virendra Lal emphasized the necessity for the government to prioritize the needs of all social welfare recipients. His remarks came in response to recent delays in social welfare allowance payments.

Lal stressed that such delays are unacceptable and should be prevented in the future. He urged the Ministry of Finance to enhance its systems to ensure timely payments.

The Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection acknowledged earlier this week that the disbursement of social welfare allowances for August was postponed due to the transition to the government’s new financial year. Minister for Women, Lynda Tabuya, assured that starting in September, regular monthly payments would resume as scheduled.

Minister of Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, clarified that there were no issues with the finance system, reaffirming that the Social Welfare Ministry had already provided an explanation for the delay. He stated, “All allowances have been paid.”

Approximately 104,000 beneficiaries depend on various support schemes, including family assistance, social pensions, care and protection allowances, disability allowances, rural pregnant mother food allowances, and transport assistance schemes.
