Upholding Ethics in the Global Narcotics Bureau: A Reminder for Fiji Police Officers

Newly inducted officers of the Fiji Police Narcotics Bureau were today reminded of the importance of maintaining ethical integrity in a department globally recognized as a vulnerable field of policing.

The Director of the Narcotics Bureau, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fisi Nasario, delivered this message while welcoming the new officers. He noted, “Ask any law enforcement agency, and they will tell you that the Narcotics Bureau is always a vulnerable department. This is a universal experience in policing. However, the principles, values, and ethics of the Fiji Police Force remain unchanged. Nothing should ever alter that.”

SSP Nasario continued, “You will be tested over time. The principles, values, and ethics will be put to the test, and I urge you to consider the tasks you are given, the individuals you are meant to protect, and why you were chosen above others.”

Currently, officers from the Narcotics Bureau are deployed in all five policing divisions. While resource challenges persist, SSP Nasario emphasized the importance of leveraging partnerships and community support.

“More than 90 percent of the population are law-abiding citizens who are also concerned and willing to help. Many of our law-abiding citizens have been instrumental in providing information that has led to successful drug raids and busts,” he said.

“The Government and other institutions share the same concern and express their willingness to take action,” he added.

“Our foreign counterparts have been providing guidance, assistance, and support. We are advancing by customizing our strategies based on our resources and capabilities but will never give up. We will be aggressive and direct in our efforts, and I urge you all to remain steadfast and do your best,” he concluded.
