Weather Update: January 9, 2026

Good morning, Fiji! It seems like we have a guest in the form of a trough of low pressure, and unfortunately, it didn’t come bearing gifts. Instead, it’s bringing along clouds and showers as it slowly saunters southeastward across our beautiful islands.

Here’s the forecast until midnight tonight: Expect occasional showers and maybe a downpour or two over Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, Tailevu North, Naitasiri-Ra, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu, and the cooler smaller islands, including Lau and Lomaiviti. It sounds like a lot of rain, so be sure to have your umbrella at the ready. Elsewhere, we’ll see some cloudy periods followed by those charming afternoon or evening showers. And yes, just to spice it up, brace for the possibility of isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls that might just turn the low-lying areas into modern-day Venice.

Winds will be moderate from the east, and seas are going to play nice—moderate as well.

Now, here’s what to expect for Saturday: More cloudiness with a sprinkle of showers expected over Navua, Suva, Nausori, Serua, Namosi, Tailevu North, Naitasiri-Ra, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, and down in Kadavu and the island groups. The rest of you can look forward to fine weather, that is, if we ignore a few isolated afternoon or evening showers. And who doesn’t love an occasional thunderstorm to keep things interesting?

Now, if you’re in Navua, Suva, or Nausori, get ready for cloudy periods and those fun afternoon thunderstorms. Temperatures will cozy up between 24 and 31 degrees, so keep an eye on that hairdo!

In Natadradave and Korovou, it’s the same story: clouds, showers, and those sassy thunderstorms making an appearance in the afternoon and evening with the same temperature range.

Sigatoka and the Coral Coast? You guessed it—cloudy periods with a side of showers, and just for fun, throw in some heavy afternoon thunderstorms. Min: 24, Max: 31.

Now Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, and Tavua—occasional showers and a sprinkle of heavy falls await you, but don’t worry, you’ll still reach a toasty Max of 33.

For Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, and even Kadavu: it’s cloud city with showers and those flashy thunderstorms. Temperatures will hang around the pleasant 24 to 33 range, keeping things warm—and a bit damp!

Over in Rotuma, looks like the weather’s taking a more serious turn with occasional heavy showers and a few boisterous thunderstorms. Just a heads up, winds will be moderate to fresh and seas a little rough.

So grab your umbrellas, embrace the rainy-day spirit, and remember, the islands always have a way of staying sunny at heart—even if the weather decides to keep us guessing!
