Get your umbrellas ready and maybe consider building an arc because we’re in for quite a soggy ride!
As of 7:03 am this fine Thursday, the weather wizards at the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi have issued a heavy rain alert for the Northern Division, Eastern Viti Levu, Yasawa, Lau, and the delightful Lomaiviti group. Essentially, it looks like Mother Nature has decided to unleash her inner waterworks, courtesy of a sneaky trough of low pressure hanging out above us.
From now until midnight, expect showers that could bring a good soaking to the Northern Division along with Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Yasawa, Lau, and Lomaiviti. Thunderstorms might join the party as well, because what’s a good storm without a little lightning and thunder? Meanwhile, the rest of us can expect occasional rain and a few isolated thunderstorms here and there – just think of it as nature’s way of keeping things interesting.
Humorously enough, these rains might lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas. So, if you were planning on wading through puddles, make sure to track the water levels – the last thing you want is to miscalculate and become the next contestant in a very wet game of hide and seek!
The winds will be blowing moderately from the east to northeast – fresh air for the adventurous, but not too vigorous that you’ll have to hold on to your hats. And the seafaring folk might want to keep their sea legs steady because the seas are moderate to rough.
As for our forecast for Friday, it appears we’re in for more of the same – occasional rain and a few thunderstorms lurking around. Here’s how it’s looking for our key areas:
– Navua / Suva / Nausori: Pack your raincoat! Expect it to be heavy at times. Our temperatures will swagger between 23°C and 29°C.
– Natadradave/Korovou: Rain and thunder will be your companions – same temps as above.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: More rain with a sprinkle of thunderstorms. You’re looking at 23°C to 30°C.
– Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Grab that umbrella – scattered rain and thunderstorms. Minimum of 23°C, max 30°C.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca: Expect some drama with your weather – it’s going to be rainy and thunderous. We’re still pegging the temps at 23°C to 30°C.
– Labasa: Prepare for some watercolor landscapes – rain, heavy at times. 23°C to 30°C is the range.
– Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, Kadavu: Expect the same watery vibe with temps lingering around the 23°C to 30°C mark.
– Rotuma: With northeasterly winds and a low-pressure system playing hide and seek, occasional showers will be in the forecast. Min 25°C to Max 29°C.
So, folks, it looks like we’ve got rain chances aplenty and bouts of thunder to keep us entertained. Don’t forget your waterproof footwear and maybe consider some indoor activities – like perfecting your coffee brewing skills or binge-watching that show you’ve been saving for a rainy day! Stay dry and keep smiling!
