Updated December 8, 2025: Heavy Rain Alert Remains for Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti Group; Cancelled for Rest of Fiji

Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 11:10 AM on Monday, December 8, 2025

Hold onto your umbrellas, folks—there’s a heavy rain alert still in play for the Northern Division, Lau, and Lomaiviti Groups! But don’t worry, the rest of Fiji has been let off the hook, so no need to build an arc just yet.

What’s happening? A lazy trough of low pressure is lounging around over Fiji and is making plans to drift eastward (probably for a sun-soaked vacation). While it’s taking its time, expect clouds and showers to be the life of the party in the eastern and northern parts until later on Wednesday.

Now, let’s break down the forecast for tonight:

– Brace yourselves for occasional rain and perhaps a few surprise thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and their smaller island buddies, as well as Lau and Lomaiviti. Tomorrow, the rain should mellow out into mere showers, so your crocs may finally get a break.
– Over on Eastern Viti Levu (think Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra provinces), expect similar wet antics with some heavy falls and a few thunderous roars.
– For everyone else, things are looking clear except for some afternoon or evening drizzle and a chance to hear thunder’s distant applause.
– Expect moderate to fresh breezes turning the skies into a breezy catwalk, and seas that are a bit moderate to rough—perfect for our thrill-seeking sailors.

Coming Wednesday’s outlook? Plan for occasional showers and the odd thunderstorm to crash your outdoor fun over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Lau, and Lomaiviti. Eastern Viti Levu will still have its cloudy periods with some unruly showers. Elsewhere, the afternoon showers might just pop by, and yes, those thunderbolts may have something to say, too.
