Fiji’s Tikaram Remains Unfazed Despite Challenges
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Christopher Pryde, recently announced that Aca Rayawa, Chief Prosecutor for Bah, has been appointed as the new Deputy DPP. However, this new development has had little effect on Mele Rakai Tikaram, who originally eyed the role and remains unfazed and committed to her job.
Robust Commitment Remains Despite Adjustment
While aspirational for the Deputy DPP role that Rayawa now holds, Tikaram’s determination and zeal in her role as Principal Legal Officer remains unchanged. She described Rayawa as a capable prosecutor and shows no signs of backing down in her commitment to serve the Department of Public Prosecutions.
Grounded in Valuable Experience
Tikaram has more than 20 years under her belt in the legal sector. This includes eleven years serving as a legal practitioner in the United Kingdom and other global jurisdictions. Here in Fiji, she worked at the Office of the Attorney General for five years. Her experience is broad, adding to the Director of the Public Prosecutions office’s depth and range.
Personal Growth and Opportunities
In a statement, Tikaram acknowledged the opportunity to further develop her expertise in criminal law within her current role, despite the recent development not going in her favor. She valued the experience she amassed throughout her career, referring to it as an opportunity to grow and contribute positively to the department and her country.
Anticipation for Future Success
Tikaram is now looking forward to more triumphs, encouraging her colleagues within the Department of Public Prosecutions to cultivate a collaborative and harmonious work environment. She underlines the importance of teamwork as a primary value in achieving the DPP’s mission and goals.
