The Fijian Drua is making headlines once again with the launch of a new book detailing the club’s journey from inception to success. Titled “The Rise of the Drua – How A Rugby Dream Captivated A Nation,” the book is authored by renowned rugby commentator Greg Clark and experienced sports journalist Norman Tasker. It provides fans and readers with an engaging account of the club’s development over the past 25 years.
The narrative highlights the team’s formation during the challenging times of the COVID pandemic and its extraordinary progress in Super Rugby Pacific. It paints a picture of the struggles and triumphs experienced by the club, players, and staff, as they faced constant relocations and eventually returned to Fiji.
This book honors the individuals—including players, coaches, and sponsors—who have contributed to making the Drua one of the most cherished teams in the league in a relatively short period.
Key themes of passion, resilience, and pride are woven throughout the narrative, enriched by exclusive interviews, insightful revelations, previously unseen photographs, and behind-the-scenes stories that vividly portray the Drua’s journey.
Mark Evans, CEO of Fijian Drua, expressed that the book serves as a comprehensive account of the various challenges and successes that characterize the team. He emphasized the celebration of their steadfast Fijian spirit, player dedication, and the loyal support from fans. “It’s a must-read for anyone who loves rugby and wants to understand the heart of the Fijian Drua,” he stated.
The book is set to be available for purchase starting October 11, with the paperback version retailing at $35 and the hardback version for $50. Fans can also anticipate a series of book signings and special events featuring Drua players and staff.
