“Unveiling the Boxing Purse Demands”

A boxer must justify the reasons for demanding a large purse when it comes to a championship fight. The Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) has set a minimum purse of $2000 for such fights.

Chairman Adi Narayan stated that the BCF is open to negotiations for demands higher than what promoters offer. This decision follows concerns about boxers requesting $7000 to $8000 per fight.

“We don’t want to dictate boxer purse but have set a minimum purse of $2000 for a championship fight,” Narayan said. He added that while the BCF has the authority to influence boxer purses, they are creating opportunities for negotiation.

Narayan mentioned that if two good boxers are involved and one refuses to sign due to purse issues, the BCF will facilitate discussions between the boxer, their manager, and the promoter.

“We will sit and they will justify their demand for the amount they are asking, and we will come to a settlement. We have powers but aim to negotiate; if a boxer believes they are worth a higher amount, they need to prove it to us,” he said.

“If you don’t justify, then the decision will be made accordingly,” Narayan concluded.
