Breast cancer represents more than just statistics; it embodies real stories that affect families, friends, and communities, according to former tertiary lecturer Akosita Toga.

Ms. Toga spoke at the Then India Sanmarga Ikya (TISI) Sangam College of Nursing and Health Care Education during the institution’s Picktober and Diwali celebration on Friday. She emphasized that no one should face breast cancer in isolation and urged nursing students and staff to promote the breast health care services available in Fiji.

“Breast cancer impacts many lives—our mothers, sisters, friends, and even ourselves. No one should face cancer alone,” Ms. Toga stated. She highlighted that early detection and proper treatment are critical in preventing breast cancer, stressing the necessity to raise awareness on this crucial issue.

Globally recognized, Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) is observed every October to raise awareness about the disease. This month emphasizes the significance of early detection, timely diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, and the imperative of supporting those living with cancer.
