“Unveiling Fiji’s Drug Epidemic: Inside the ‘Reddest’ Zone”

Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua has identified the Western Division as the most problematic drug zone in the country. During his appearance on The Lens@177, he noted that Nadi remains a significant area of concern for authorities, citing numerous major drug busts in the region.

Tikoduadua stated that while exact figures on active drug users are unavailable, estimates suggest substantial numbers. He highlighted that the Central Division, particularly the Suva-Nausori corridor, is most alarming due to the high population density.

He mentioned that informal settlements are particularly vulnerable, although no area, including Tamavua, is exempt from drug issues. According to Tikoduadua, arrests involving “white, not green” substances have been made in Vanua Levu and maritime islands.

The focus, he said, remains on business areas where drug enablers are often found. While exact user numbers are hard to determine, data is available from those seeking help and from social organizations that offer outreach.

The government is especially targeting street children through the Ministries of Social Welfare, and Youth and Sports. Tikoduadua expressed concerns over the number of street kids using drugs, emphasizing the need to understand the problem’s extent and depth. He stressed the importance of reducing the number of people involved in drug usage and marketing.
