A 49-year-old man has been remanded in custody by the Nausori Magistrates Court after being charged with the alleged rape of his 13-year-old niece. The incident reportedly took place on September 2 at the accused’s home, where it is claimed he forcefully assaulted the victim while she was returning an item belonging to his daughter. The victim’s mother subsequently reported the matter to the Vunidawa Police Station. The charges against the accused include two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. The case has been scheduled for mention on September 19 at the Suva High Court.
