The Ministry of Education has recognized that inadequate school infrastructure significantly hampers schools’ ability to maintain Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro highlighted concerns following a troubling incident at Nabua Primary School, where students are exposed to unsafe conditions.

Minister Radrodro noted, “We received initial reports regarding Nabua, indicating that the building, which was constructed under previous management, remains incomplete.” He emphasized the ongoing efforts with the new administration to find the best way to finalize the construction. He encouraged the school administration to formally request governmental assistance through the Ministry of Education to complete the outstanding work.

The condition of Nabua Primary School is concerning, with many classrooms featuring rusted roofs and windows that lack blades, presenting safety risks for students. Additionally, the Minister for Employment, Productivity, and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, confirmed that a team had inspected the school on November 4. He indicated that a report addressing the OHS issues would be released on November 5, yet the Ministry has not yet provided an update despite repeated inquiries.

In light of these challenges, it is crucial for the involved ministries to prioritize the safety and well-being of students by addressing these infrastructural shortcomings promptly. There remains hope that with collaborative efforts and the commitment of the government, Nabua Primary School can soon provide a safer learning environment for its students. Ensuring safe educational facilities is essential for fostering a conducive learning atmosphere and ultimately contributing to student success.
