Three out of six men facing charges for transporting 26.03 kilograms of marijuana to Suva reported difficulties in reaching their lawyer, Jerry Dinati. Apisai Daveta, Tevita Vuki, and Timoci Lolohea informed the court that their efforts to contact Dinati were unsuccessful. These three men, along with Letia Tokoni, Sakiusa Timi, and Saimoni Mule, are charged with the unlawful possession of illicit drugs stemming from an incident in September 2025. Additionally, Lolohea is facing a separate charge related to unlawful cultivation.

The case was initially brought before Acting Chief Magistrate Josaia Waqaivolavola at 9:30 a.m., but Dinati was absent from the proceedings. Even when the court reconvened at noon, Dinati did not appear, leading the magistrate to call his name multiple times without a response.

In a related development, the other three accused—Tokoni, Timi, and Mule—entered not guilty pleas. Their attorney, Amani Bale, indicated plans to contest Saimoni Mule’s admission made during a caution interview.

The case is scheduled to be adjourned until February 26, during which a voir dire trial date will be established, and the remaining accused individuals will have the opportunity to enter their pleas. The upcoming proceedings will be crucial in determining the path forward for those involved and ensuring that justice is served in the handling of this serious matter.
