Unraveling the Mystery: What Happened to the 2022 Election ‘Glitch’ Investigation?

Nearly two years after the 2022 General Elections, there has been no substantial update regarding the investigations into the controversial vote counting ‘glitch’ that occurred during the election process. The Electoral Commission, in response to inquiries about this delay in February, indicated that they recognized the government’s necessary procedures.

Justice Minister Siromi Turaga, attending a regional forum on cybercrime and electronic evidence at Shangri-La Yanuca Island Fiji, stated that the investigation report is still under review, considering new developments. He mentioned ongoing discussions with the Electoral Commission Committee and expressed eagerness to meet with them and the Supervisor of Elections in the near future.

Mr. Turaga highlighted that some preliminary findings have been discussed and need further exploration before they can be formally presented to the Cabinet. Full disclosure will only be possible once the Cabinet has been briefed.

As the investigation progresses, this situation presents an opportunity for greater transparency in the electoral process, reinforcing democratic principles in the long-run. Communities anxiously awaiting clarity can find hope that the government is taking steps to ensure the integrity of future elections.
