Ratu Osea Levula, the accused in a significant drug trafficking case concerning over four tonnes of methamphetamine, claimed in Lautoka High Court that he was unaware he was assisting at a drug storage site. While testifying, Levula recounted meeting his university friend, Sakiusa Tuva, at Lautoka Hospital in December last year, which eventually led to his involvement in repair work at Tuva’s house in Voivoi, Nadi—where the drugs were later discovered.

Desperate for employment, Levula accepted the job, only to become suspicious due to the private nature of conversations between Tuva and another co-accused, Cathy Tuirabe. He emphasized his lack of knowledge regarding the illicit activities occurring at the site, stating that they often prevented him from joining their discussions.

This case is part of broader judicial actions against drug trafficking in Fiji, mirroring previous testimonies from other accused individuals asserting ignorance of the operations they were allegedly involved in. For example, another accused, Louie Logaivau, described feeling coerced into participation by Justin Ho, while Aporosa Davelevu claimed he was misled about the contents of the truck he drove.

The ongoing trial reflects not only the complexity of drug trafficking networks but also the shared hope within the community for accountability and justice. Each witness’s contribution amplifies the collective effort to dismantle illegal operations and stabilize public safety in Fiji, echoing a commitment to fostering a safer environment for all its citizens. As this crucial trial proceeds, it serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and cooperation between communities and law enforcement in combating drug-related crimes.
