The South Pacific Boxing Promotions is set to transport the ring to Labasa for the August 10 event at Subrail Park. Promoter Fred Chand confirmed yesterday that preparations for the event are nearly complete.

“There is no ring in Labasa, and this is the first event there after nine years,” Chand said. “So far, we are 99 percent on track. The Vanuatu boxers are arriving next Wednesday and will catch their connecting flight to Labasa.”

The main bout will feature Fiji super welterweight and IBO Asia Pacific champion Winston Hill facing Roy ‘Tsunami’ Ser from Port Vila, Vanuatu. Ser, who trained in China, won a gold medal for Vanuatu at the Pacific Mini Games and has a knockout victory over top Fiji welterweight contender Rakuro Dauvavana.

Former Fiji middleweight champion Nat Ledua mentioned in an earlier interview that the residents of Vanua Levu are eager to see Hill in action.

Another exciting match is the Fiji lightweight title fight between the stylish Ubayd Haider (formerly known as Nathan Singh) and the powerful Saimoni Ratu of Naitasiri. Haider, who is also the country’s super featherweight champion, has recorded two wins in Australia.

Chand announced that tickets will go on sale next week as they finalize a few remaining details.
