Former Flying Fijian Seremaia Bai recently shared a powerful message with young rugby players at Stella Maris Primary School during a Vacirisalusalu event. Bai, as the chief guest, emphasized the importance of three key habits for success both in rugby and life, encapsulated in the acronym L.U.A. — Listen, Understand, and Apply.

Bai explained that effective listening is crucial. He encouraged the students to pay attention to their coaches, parents, and teachers to truly understand their guidance. “If you can listen and understand, then you can apply what you’ve learned. That’s the key to learning, both on and off the field,” he stated.

This event celebrated Stella Maris’s participation in the Suva Kaji Rugby Association tournament, which spanned ten weeks and involved teams from under-9 to under-14 age brackets. School rugby manager Mere Naulu highlighted that the occasion was not just about rugby but also about instilling values in the children. “We pay tribute to our boys and their parents, emphasizing the values of family, spirit, and presence,” she said.

Naulu further noted the alignment of these values with rugby’s principles of integrity and discipline, which serve as foundational lessons as the boys grow. She stressed the importance of developing habits like punctuality and respect, which are essential for success in various life paths, whether in rugby or other professions.

Bai was particularly chosen to address the students due to his relatable life story and connection to many who play in his junior rugby club. His journey, which involved using rugby to support his family, serves as an inspiring example for the young athletes.

Overall, this event not only recognized the hard work and dedication of the students but also reinforced the broader message of personal growth through sports and values, highlighting a hopeful future for these young players as they develop skills that extend beyond the rugby field.
