Unlocking Potential: The Power of Literacy and Art in Education

Integrating literacy skills with artistic expression can assist children in uncovering their passions, enhancing their confidence, and positively influencing their lives as well as the broader community. This was highlighted by Education Ministry permanent secretary Selina Kuruleca, who served as the chief guest at the CMF Primary School’s Literacy Arts Awareness Week event yesterday.

Themed “Unlocking Limitless Potential through Literacy Art,” the student exhibitions showcased various countries around the globe. Ms. Kuruleca emphasized that art is a potent tool capable of revealing limitless potential within individuals and communities.

She noted that literacy and numeracy are fundamental skills that serve as the foundational elements of education, crucial for the growth of individuals, communities, and the nation overall. Ms. Kuruleca pointed out that these skills unlock a world of opportunities, mentioning that approximately 38,500 students in Years 5 and 7 are evaluated each year through the Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (LANA).

She encouraged parents and guardians to actively support their children’s learning by overseeing homework, engaging with the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), and participating in school-organized activities.
