Integrating literacy skills with artistic expression can enable children to explore their interests, boost their confidence, and create positive changes in their lives and communities. This message was conveyed by Selina Kuruleca, the permanent secretary of the Education Ministry, during her role as the chief guest at the Literacy Arts Awareness Week at CMF Primary School.
Under the theme “Unlocking Limitless Potential through Literacy Art,” the exhibitions showcased the diverse cultures of various countries around the globe. Ms. Kuruleca highlighted that art serves as a significant medium to tap into the vast potential within individuals and their communities.
She emphasized that literacy and numeracy are foundational skills crucial for education and play a vital role in the advancement of individuals, communities, and the nation. Literacy and numeracy, she stated, are keys to accessing a multitude of opportunities, noting that approximately 38,500 students in Years 5 and 7 are assessed annually through the LANA program.
Additionally, she encouraged parents and guardians to actively monitor their children’s academic progress by overseeing homework, engaging in Parent-Teacher Association meetings, and participating in school-organized activities.
