During a recent workshop hosted by the Land Use Division, Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo emphasized that simply owning land does not guarantee financial success. He highlighted the need for landowners and mataqali trustees to enhance their financial literacy and management capabilities to fully realize the economic potential of their assets.

Addressing approximately 60 participants, Vosarogo urged attendees to go beyond the notion of mere land possession and focus on strategic development initiatives. He pointed out that without foundational skills in business, negotiation, and financial management, even substantial landholdings could remain unexploited.

The minister noted, “The program is designed to ensure landowners, particularly trustees, understand their role.” He explained that trustees carry a significant responsibility on behalf of others, which necessitates a greater depth of knowledge and accountability.

The workshop aimed to equip landowners with the essential tools for engaging with investors, managing leases effectively, and making informed financial decisions. Currently, the Land Use Division oversees 106 landowning units, encompassing approximately 10,091.62 hectares, and manages 98 active leases.

This initiative marks a vital step towards empowering landowners to unlock the full economic potential of their lands, bridging the gap between ownership and productive use. The focus on skill development could lead to more sustainable land management and, ultimately, greater prosperity for the communities involved.

In summary, the workshop serves as an important platform for educating landowners on strategic land use, fostering greater economic opportunities, and ensuring responsible stewardship of land resources. This proactive approach can lead to improved financial outcomes and enhanced community well-being moving forward.
