The recently launched Career Fair in Suva, officiated by Assistant Minister Iliesa Vanawalu, aims to expand career exploration for students while encouraging meaningful discussions about aspirations between parents and their children. This two-day event, organized by the Outsourcing Industry, challenges the conventional practice of students staying home during school holidays by offering them exposure to the workplace.

Vanawalu emphasized the fair’s importance in reaching aspiring students across Fiji, ensuring inclusivity in educational opportunities. He stated, “Education is not merely about imparting knowledge; it is about empowering individuals to realize their full potential, pursue their passions, and contribute meaningfully to society.” He highlighted that education should align closely with industry needs and foster innovation, enabling graduates to effectively navigate the modern job market.

Senior Curriculum Advisor for the Career Section of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Lasarusa Rakula, noted the limited job opportunities available in Fiji and encouraged students and school leavers to take advantage of the fair. The event witnessed significant participation from students in the greater Suva area, demonstrating a strong interest in future career possibilities.

In summary, this initiative not only serves as a platform for career exploration but also functions as a bridge between education and industry, fostering a generation poised to contribute to society effectively. The Career Fair is a hopeful step toward aligning aspirations with real-world opportunities for students in Fiji.

This event reflects a positive trend towards proactive career planning in the educational system, underscoring the importance of engaging students in conversations about their futures.
