Unlocking Futures: Students from Moala Island Explore Career Pathways

Students from Uciwai District School on Moala Island had a valuable opportunity to expand their knowledge at a Careers Expo hosted by Yasayasa Moala College. Guided by their teacher, Jonacani Kotobalavu, students in years 6 to 8 attended the week-long event organized by the Ministry of Education to explore various educational and career options.

The Expo, which traveled through the Lau group, featured booths from multiple stakeholders, including Fiji National University. Kotobalavu highlighted the importance of expanding students’ perspectives beyond their island. “Learning is not just limited to our island; there’s always a bigger picture out there,” he stated. He underscored the relevance of the expo as students prepare for the transition to secondary school and ultimately to universities.

Students had the chance to visit numerous booths and discover different educational avenues. Kotobalavu, who is also an alumnus of FNU, noted that having institutions like FNU present at the expo encourages students to consider their future possibilities. “This moment is important for our students to come and explore because they are building their futures,” he remarked, emphasizing the positive impact of such initiatives in remote maritime areas.
