The Fiji Sugar Corporation Ltd (FSC) has announced that applications for the 2025 FSC Apprentice Program will be opening soon this month. This program aims to prepare young people with essential skills for successful careers in engineering and technical fields.

Participants in the program receive guidance and support from FSC. One notable apprentice, Siobahn Bogidrau, is currently training as an electrical fitter at the FSC Mill in Lautoka. She shared, “I believe if you set your goals, work hard, and stay focused, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.”

Siobahn’s interest in engineering was sparked during a career class at Natabua High School. Encouraged by the opportunities in this field, she joined the FSC Apprentice Program this year, where she has been gaining valuable experience and training that is critical for her career advancement.

The program offers a diverse approach to skill development, enhancing both technical abilities and collaboration among apprentices. Siobahn expressed gratitude for the on-the-job training and the confidence it has instilled in her work. “I’ve never felt limited as a woman in this field; the corporation treats all of us equally and continuously motivates me to learn and grow.”

Looking to the future, Siobahn is enthusiastic about continuing her journey with FSC and advancing her studies in engineering. “The skills I’m learning now are just the beginning,” she stated.

This initiative by FSC not only fosters professional growth among young individuals but also promotes gender equality in the engineering sector, paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.

This article showcases the positive impact of apprenticeship programs in nurturing the next generation of engineers and highlights the corporate commitment to supporting women in traditionally male-dominated fields.
