The Land Transport Authority has announced a wheel tax amnesty for vehicles that were inactive during the COVID-19 pandemic. This amnesty will be in effect from August 1, 2024, until July 31, 2025, as outlined in Legal Notice 73 of the Land Transport (Fees & Penalties) (Amendment) Regulations 2024.
According to the LTA, vehicle owners whose vehicles expired between July 4, 2016, and July 31, 2023, are eligible to have their wheel tax arrears waived, which includes the Road User Levy and charges under the Accident Compensation Act 2017. However, those whose vehicles expired before or on July 3, 2016, will not qualify for this waiver, and arrears will still apply from the date of expiry until July 3, 2016.
For vehicles that are valid between August 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024, there will be charges for arrears. To take advantage of this initiative, vehicle owners must visit the nearest LTA branch, settle any outstanding fines, renew their motor vehicle accident levy, and pay for an inspection application.
