A group of experts is currently evaluating applications for the newly established Tower Vunilagi Scholarship, and the company plans to contact successful candidates within this month. Jajeena Bhan, co-chair of Tower Insurance’s Suva Hub, noted that the review panel consists of executives from Tower’s New Zealand group as well as its leadership team in Fiji.
“The term ‘vunilagi’ translates to ‘new horizons’,” Ms. Bhan explained. “The Tower Vunilagi Scholarship aims to support students we recognize as future leaders at Tower, assisting us in developing a better business and fostering a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable future for all Fijians.”
The scholarship was introduced in June to commemorate the company’s 150-year presence in Fiji. It will provide a full year of tuition for three final-year students at the University of the South Pacific (USP), along with an internship at Tower Insurance.
“Insurance is an expansive and dynamic sector filled with numerous career progression opportunities that can make an impact right here in Fiji,” Ms. Bhan added. “In addition to covering their final year tuition, successful scholarship recipients will undertake paid internships and graduate from USP with the possibility of securing a permanent position at Tower.”
Ms. Bhan highlighted that Tower already employs many graduates from USP, viewing the scholarship as a crucial step in strengthening their partnership. Furthermore, she mentioned a successful open day event held at USP that attracted a large number of students eager to learn more about job opportunities at Tower, spanning fields like data analysis, marketing, sustainability, and human resources.
Tower is also set to participate in the USP Career Fair Days in October.
