The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Suva, in partnership with various Faith-Based Organizations, is set to hold an Ecumenical and Interreligious Season of Creation Prayer Service on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Ratu Sukuna Park from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
The Season of Creation, which takes place annually from September 1 to October 4, is a global initiative focused on prayer and action aimed at safeguarding our environment. It is a special occasion to honor God as the Creator and acknowledge Creation as a divine blessing that calls for collective care and preservation.
This year’s theme, “To Hope and Act with Creation,” encourages individuals of faith to respond with optimism amid the worldwide environmental challenges such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, and pollution.
Despite the rise in eco-anxiety among many, people of faith are urged to draw strength from their beliefs and engage in meaningful actions through prayer, service, and solidarity.
Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, the leader of the Catholic Church in Fiji, emphasized the importance of collective efforts, stating that it is essential to work together through faith to promote the message of environmental protection, a key focus of this Ecumenical Service.
Organizers hope that attendees will help spread the message of stewardship for the environment and highlight the role faith plays in safeguarding our planet, uniting in prayer and action for the Earth.
