Three determined young athletes from Adi Maopa Secondary School are set to make their mark at this year’s Fiji Finals by sharing a single pair of track shoes. Instead of feeling discouraged, they view this act of unity as a source of inspiration that may lead them to win the school’s first-ever medal at the eagerly awaited competition.

The trio was witnessed taking turns wearing the shoes at the Maritime Zone events held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Sub-junior athlete Timoci Bulu shared that a teammate who didn’t qualify for the finals generously contributed the shoes, motivating them to seize this rare opportunity and aim for success.

Bulu elaborated, “I’m sharing with Asiveli and Sakiusa. Asiveli will compete in the 200m and long jump, while Sakiusa will participate in the long-distance events.” The young athletes expressed their contentment with sharing, emphasizing that the spirit of collaboration outweighs their need for individual pairs.

This collective effort not only serves to strengthen their determination but also resonates with the entire 30-member delegation representing Adi Maopa. Bulu noted the challenges they faced in preparation, but the experience of sharing the shoes has become a meaningful testament to their dedication.

The 2025 Coca-Cola Games National Championships are scheduled to take place from Thursday to Saturday at the same venue, promising to be an extraordinary showcase of talent. Live coverage will be available on FBC TV, allowing enthusiasts to follow the excitement of the event.

The initiative taken by these young athletes embodies resilience and sportsmanship, illustrating how shared challenges can foster teamwork and inspire a positive outlook. Their story echoes the broader narrative within the athletics community in Fiji, where athletes are not only competing for medals but also growing in camaraderie and unity. As the event approaches, there is a palpable sense of hope and anticipation for the achievements that lie ahead, reflecting a bright future for athletics in the region.
