Sashi Kiran, the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, revealed that multiple referral systems are being developed to assist specific groups, including beggars, the elderly, and youth facing homelessness.
A crucial outcome from the meeting was a consensus among the ministers to bolster the enforcement of current laws aimed at mitigating the prevalence of street dwellers in urban areas. Minister Kiran noted ongoing discussions regarding the establishment of rehabilitation centers that would specifically support young individuals living on the streets, particularly those grappling with substance abuse.
Participating in these discussions were notable figures including Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalusima, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Sakiasi Ditoka, Minister for Policing Iowane Naivalurua, Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga, and Minister for I-Taukei Affairs Ifireimi Vasu, indicating a unified governmental effort to tackle this pressing issue.
Reflecting on these initiatives, Minister Nalusima recently engaged with eight individuals found residing in Sukuna Park, emphasizing a commitment to addressing their essential needs like housing and job opportunities.
