Uniting Through Compassion: A Message from Fiji’s Prime Minister on Prophet Mohammed’s Legacy

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka highlighted the core values of compassion, justice, and humility that guided Prophet Mohammed in his work during the celebration of the Prophet’s Birthday. He emphasized that these values remain as pertinent today as they were over 1300 years ago.

Mr. Rabuka remarked, “Such values and beliefs can be a force for good especially as we confront the many pressing challenges in our daily lives.” He acknowledged that, despite differences in faith, scripture, or places of worship, the universal need for compassion, justice, and humility unites everyone.

He stressed the importance of treating each other with kindness, advocating for justice, and embodying humility, stating that these actions could have a significant positive influence on our communities, whether in urban areas or rural settings.

The Prime Minister recognized the diversity of faith, culture, and language in Fiji as a source of strength. He noted that this diversity is honored by designating key religious events as national public holidays.

The observance of Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday serves as a reminder of the need for harmony, respect for different beliefs, and the promotion of mutual understanding within Fiji’s diverse communities. Mr. Rabuka concluded his message by extending congratulations to the Muslim community and expressing hope for continued religious tolerance and dialogue both in Fiji and abroad.
