Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, is calling on parents and teachers to reinforce discipline among children and to address the critical issue of drug abuse that has plagued the nation for the past 10 to 15 years. He pointed out the government’s commitment to tackling this challenge with decisive actions.

Prasad highlighted the importance of imparting strong religious and ethical values to school children, suggesting that such principles are vital for helping them make wise decisions that can lead to a prosperous life. He stressed that principles like integrity, compassion, and respect for others must be instilled at an early age.

He stated, “We have somewhere to go, and we can’t do that alone as a government. We need the cooperation of our teachers, our children, our families, our parents, our police officers, and everyone involved in combating this menace that is now with us.” This call for collective action echoes previous sentiments he expressed at events like the Gold N Water Carnival, where he labeled drug abuse as a national crisis that affects not just individuals, but entire communities and families.

Moreover, he urged parents to be vigilant regarding their children’s activities and whereabouts, underlining that these values can play a significant role in addressing society’s evolving challenges, including drug-related issues. It reflects a broader governmental theme focusing on the need for community collaboration to counter drug use and violence, particularly against women and children.

This focus on parental involvement and ethical education is crucial, as other governmental initiatives also stress the necessity of time spent with children to foster healthy development and decision-making. Collective efforts in nurturing and guiding the younger generation are thus seen as instrumental in combating the drug menace and promoting overall well-being in society, emphasizing a hopeful outlook for a safer future.
