Uniting Faiths for a Greener Future: An Ecumenical Prayer Service

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Suva, in partnership with various Faith-Based Organizations, is set to hold an Ecumenical and Interreligious Season of Creation Prayer Service on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Ratu Sukuna Park, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

The Season of Creation is an annual global event observed from September 1 to October 4, dedicated to prayer and action aimed at safeguarding our shared environment. This period serves as a time to honor God as the Creator and to acknowledge Creation as a divine gift that compels us to work together for its care and sustainability.

This year’s theme, “To Hope and Act with Creation,” encourages individuals of faith to respond with optimism to the pressing global challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

In light of the anxiety surrounding ecological issues, faith communities are urged to draw strength from their beliefs and engage in meaningful actions through prayer, service, and solidarity.

Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, the leader of the Catholic Church in Fiji, emphasized the importance of collective efforts through faith to promote the message of environmental protection, which is a central focus of the Ecumenical Service.

The organizers hope that all attendees will unite in prayer and action for the Earth, enhancing the message of environmental stewardship and the significant role that faith plays in safeguarding our planet.
