The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Suva, in partnership with several Faith-Based Organizations, will organize an Ecumenical and Interreligious Season of Creation Prayer Service on Thursday, October 3, 2024. The event will take place at Ratu Sukuna Park from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
The Season of Creation is celebrated annually from September 1 to October 4 and focuses on prayer and action aimed at protecting our planet. It is a designated time to honor God as the Creator and acknowledge Creation as a divine gift that inspires collective care and preservation efforts.
This year’s theme, “To Hope and Act with Creation,” encourages individuals of faith to respond with optimism to the pressing global environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
In the face of increasing eco-anxiety, faith communities are urged to draw strength from their beliefs and engage in meaningful actions through prayer, service, and solidarity.
Archbishop Peter Loy Chong, leader of the Catholic Church in Fiji, emphasized the importance of united efforts, stating, “It is essential that we all work together through our faith to amplify the message of protecting our common home, which is one of the key messages at this Ecumenical Service.”
The organizers hope that attendees will help spread the message of environmental stewardship and highlight the role of faith in safeguarding our planet, while coming together in prayer and action for Earth.
