Environmental Health officers from the Rakiraki Medical Sub-Division have successfully completed a 14-day initiative aimed at combating the dengue outbreak by implementing preventive measures and enhancing public awareness.
The response included significant activities such as house-to-house inspections to educate residents about dengue prevention, alongside awareness campaigns that encouraged community participation. Officers conducted mosquito larvae sampling to identify and monitor breeding sites, which is crucial for targeting prevention efforts effectively.
Additionally, overgrown grass, refuse accumulation, and the presence of mosquito larvae prompted authorities to issue abatement notices to ensure that residents maintain clean surroundings. In an effort to further control the mosquito population, adult mosquito spraying was carried out in ten communities, as well as in two schools and two healthcare facilities.
Officials stress the importance of community cooperation in keeping environments clean to effectively combat mosquito breeding and reduce the risk of dengue fever.
