The Opposition plans to support the Government delegation at the upcoming COP29, stated Member of Parliament Ketan Lal. As part of the Fijian delegation heading to Baku, Azerbaijan, next month, Mr. Lal emphasized the importance of unity among Fijian leaders in addressing the nation’s future challenges.
“I, as a young MP from the current G16 opposition, will endorse any initiatives aimed at combating the severe effects of climate change on our Pacific Island nations,” Mr. Lal declared.
He noted that many delegates attending COP29 receive funding from various agencies, while some, himself included, are financed by the Government of Fiji. “I appreciate the Coalition Government’s focus on inclusivity, ensuring that the Opposition’s perspective is included in this vital dialogue,” he remarked.
Mr. Lal affirmed that his role as an Opposition MP would remain strong and vocal. “When we participate in such important discussions abroad, our aim is united, championing the common interests of our nation and our region,” he said.
He reiterated that despite differing opinions on domestic issues, climate change necessitates a collective approach, calling for unity to safeguard the people and islands of Fiji.
