More than a thousand participants joined the Pacific Recycling Foundation’s third roadside campaign, marking a significant turnout celebrated by founder Amitesh Deo. The event showcased a diverse group that included students, private sector representatives, government officials, and members of the disability community. Deo emphasized that this campaign serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect our environment and oceans, a sentiment echoed in prior campaigns highlighting the importance of community involvement.

Deo remarked, “Everyone is affected by environmental issues,” stressing the need for continued efforts and government support until all individuals recognize their role in this movement. He called for greater activism beyond just the student demographic, warning against global trends that overlook climate change. This message aligns with previous advocacy for grassroots involvement in environmental management, emphasizing that adults must also take accountability for their actions towards waste disposal.

Peceli Raduva, a teacher from Dilkusha Methodist High School, participated with his students to empower them as environmental activists. He articulated the campaign’s role in educating youth about the consequences of their choices and the necessity of caring for the environment. This focus on youth involvement mirrors past initiatives promoting sustainable practices among younger generations as a strategy for long-term change.

The Pacific Recycling Foundation remains committed to environmental and ocean protection, with this year’s World Environment Day and World Oceans Day theme being “Stand in Solidarity to Protect Our Environment.” Initiatives like these build a hopeful momentum toward a collective effort to preserve our natural resources for future generations, reinforcing the importance of inclusivity and engagement in addressing environmental challenges.
