Unit Trust of Fiji (UTOF) is actively working on strategies to assist regional partners in establishing unit trusts in their respective countries. Currently, UTOF has secured investments amounting to $35 million from regional institutions including the Vanuatu National Provident Fund and the Samoa National Provident Fund, highlighting the growing regional interest in their investment model.

Lavinia Kaumaitotoya, the UTOF board chairperson, expressed optimism as they expand their partnerships, particularly with Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands, and noted interest from other Pacific Islands like Kiribati. “The success we’ve experienced in Fiji is something we are eager to replicate in other nations,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of fostering a savings culture.

UTOF’s chief executive, Vilash Chand, added that their regional strategy is designed not only to help partners set up unit trusts but also to encourage their investment in UTOF, reflecting strong institutional confidence in both UTOF and Fiji’s financial environment. Discussions for these potential investments are being facilitated through UTOF’s Global Investment Fund, aimed at attracting offshore investors, particularly from Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and the US.

In a demonstration of their ongoing success, UTOF recently distributed $7 million to over 60,000 unit holders as a final dividend payout for the last six months of 2024. This marks a significant achievement and showcases UTOF’s commitment to returning value to its investors, while its efforts to engage regional partners signify a promising future for investment opportunities in the Pacific.

Overall, UTOF’s initiatives reflect a proactive approach to regional investment, with the potential to strengthen financial ties and economic growth across Pacific nations. The ongoing discussions and partnerships are a hopeful sign of collaboration in the region’s financial landscape.
